Are Psychics Real? The Truth About Future Predictions
I've been down the psychic rabbit hole so deep I should have a PhD in Online Psychic Readings. I've researched online psychic reviews like I was writing a dissertation, spent enough money to fund a small island nation, and had my hopes lifted to the stars only to be crushed – sometimes years later.
I've wasted too much time hanging on every prediction, too many years I'll never get back, waiting for futures that never materialized.
After thousands of readings over decades, here's some of what I've learned about whether psychics are real, the psychic traps to avoid, and the surprising path to genuine, accurate and reliable psychic guidance.
The Allure of Psychic Readings
We've all been there – desperate for answers during life's most confusing moments. That's when the idea of consulting someone who can "see" beyond our seemingly limited perspective becomes incredibly tempting.
My first experience with a psychic was when I was a young, anxious and hopeful actress, on location for one of my first films. The outcome card in my Celtic cross tarot reading was the Star card – a sign of hope, inspiration, and brilliant future success. That high got me hooked instantly.
Little did I know this was the beginning of a journey that would be fraught with false hopes, wasted time, and expensive disappointments.
The Real Damage of Future Predictions
Here’s the psychic reading trap: I've had psychics nail incredibly specific details about my past and present which “proved” to me that this psychic was truly gifted and to be trusted- only to eventually find out the hard way after many dollars and many tears, that they were mostly wrong when it came to future predictions.
I've seen the dark side of people betting their lives on 5 Star Psychic future predictions, and it's not pretty.
“Marisa” once turned down a great job opportunity because a psychic told her an even better opportunity- her “dream job” would come in three months. It never did.
“Robert” spent years waiting for a specific person to come back into his life because "the cards never lie." That reunion never happened either.
Even worse are the anxiety-inducing predictions. "I see a health crisis coming..." or "There's betrayal in your relationship..." These vague warnings do nothing constructive except plant seeds of fear and hyper-vigilance.
“Rachel” once panicked over a predicted "financial loss" for weeks, constantly checking her accounts and worrying about every purchase. The stress was real, but the predicted disaster never materialized. The irony? The real financial loss was all the money she spent on psychic readings trying to get "clarity" about the situation.
Then there's “Linda”, whose story still breaks my heart. After her cliché of a husband of 30 years left her for his much younger secretary, a top psychic convinced her not to worry, it was just a passing fling. The psychic repeatedly assured Linda that reconciliation was just around the corner. This psychic was also a skilled remote viewer who was able to describe Linda’s living room to a tee which in turn helped convince Linda that her psychic was the real deal.
So instead of focusing on healing and moving forward, Linda waited. And waited.
She waited, steeping in her heartbreak, while being reassured by her psychic that everything was going to be ok. Her husband would soon see the folly of his ways and return to her.
Even when her husband served her with divorce papers, her psychic insisted he wouldn't go through with it. More readings. More money spent on predictions and false reassurance. More waiting.
The divorce was eventually finalized. But the psychic didn’t back down, she swore this was all temporary.
Then the Wedding invitations for her now ex-husband and his fiance/secretary went out.
Still, the psychic maintained it would never, ever happen. But it did – while Linda had put her entire life on hold based on a prediction that was never grounded in reality.
The worst part of the story? Originally Linda had accepted her newly single status and had called the psychic simply to find out if there were any future potential romantic suitors in her life. She hadn’t even entertained the possibility of her husband coming back.
For Entertainment Purposes Only
Probably the most outrageous future prediction I ever received was when a psychic told me that one day I would learn I had a sibling – that my father had another secret family. As an only child whose parents were still together, I was shocked and horrified. Thank God my father had a sense of humor when I confronted him with this... he laughed and assured me it simply wasn't possible.
Years and years later, it did come true, sort of – only not to me! My good friend found out she had a secret brother- her mother had given up a baby for adoption years before she was born. The same friend who had driven me to that psychic reading and had innocently been waiting for me in the car.
Future predictions = Unreliable.
For Entertainment Purposes Only.
(There’s a reason psychics use this disclaimer!)
What Science Says About Psychic Predictions
While I believe psychics can tap into genuine intuitive information about the past and present, the scientific research on the reliability of future predictions is pretty eye opening.
The most comprehensive study on this subject, the Great Australian Psychic Prediction Project, analyzed over 3,800 psychic predictions published in Australian media across a 21-year period (2000-2020).
The results? An accuracy rate of just 11% – and even that figure is generous. As the researchers pointed out, many of these "correct" predictions had a 50/50 chance of becoming true anyway, like "Australian cricket team does very well on tour this year." They either would or wouldn't – not exactly profound insights.
As the study concluded: most predictions were too vague, expected, or simply wrong. Even more tellingly, most of what actually happened wasn't predicted, and most of what was predicted never happened.
In my personal experience tracking predictions over decades, I estimate future predictions tend to have a 1-5% accuracy rating, depending on how generous I'm feeling. At the end of the day, even the Best Psychic in the Whole Universe is going to be 50/50- at best -when it comes to the future – literally as accurate as flipping a coin.
When you think about it, this makes perfect sense. The future isn't set in stone – it's constantly shaped by millions of tiny choices, circumstances, and free will decisions made by you and everyone around you. No one, no matter how intuitive, can reliably predict that level of chaos.
Interestingly, psychological research suggests our persistent belief in psychic predictions might be tied to our desire for control. Studies have shown that people tend to believe in precognition more strongly when they're feeling a lack of control in their lives. After all, if the future is predictable (even by someone else), it feels less scary and uncertain.
I know that feeling all too well. During my darkest times, I wasn't just seeking predictions – I was desperately seeking certainty in an uncertain world.
Signs of a Genuinely Helpful Reading
I’m not saying that all psychic readings are harmful. The best readings I've experienced share these qualities:
They feel empowering rather than frightening or controlling. A good psychic reminds you of your power to shape your path, not their power to "see" it.
They resonate with your intuition. The information clicks with something you already sensed but perhaps couldn't articulate. It's that "YES!" feeling of recognition, not shock or horror.
They focus on growth, not outcomes. Instead of predicting specific events, they illuminate patterns and opportunities for healing.
They honor your autonomy. You walk away feeling more connected to your own wisdom, not dependent on their insights.
Be Your Own Psychic
The most liberating discovery I've made is that we all have access to the same intuitive wisdom psychics tap into. The difference is practice and trust. Even Edgar Cayce, the most documented psychic of all time said that we are our own best psychic: Be your own psychic
When I stopped outsourcing my future to strangers with tarot cards and started developing my own intuitive abilities, my life transformed. Decisions became clearer. Anxiety decreased. And I saved a ton of money!
Your intuition doesn't speak in dramatic predictions. It whispers through feelings, subtle knowings, and physical sensations. Learning to interpret these personal signals is far more valuable than any psychic reading you could pay for.
Bottom Line: Trust Yourself First
At the end of the day, do I think psychics are real? Yes. Many genuinely connect with intuitive information.
Do I think they can predict your future? Sometimes, but not with any reliability worth basing important decisions on.
The best guidance comes from within you. The next time you feel pulled to book a reading, try this instead: create some quiet space, close your eyes, place a hand on your heart, and ask your question directly to your deepest wisest self- your Higher Self. The answer that bubbles up might surprise you with its clarity.
Now, if you are addicted to psychics, you may need to clear out the mental clutter of all those future predictions first that have been living rent-free in your brain so you can start fresh with a clear mind. This is a process I take my clients through during my Psychic Junkie Rx hypnotherapy session.
Remember this: Your future isn't a predetermined story for someone else to read. It's an adventure that unfolds through your choices, awareness, and yes, sometimes beautiful surprises that no one could have predicted.

For years, I obsessively searched for answers from psychic after psychic. After thousands of readings over decades, the evidence was clear: 97% of those future predictions never came true.
Many moons later, I finally found what I'd been searching for—a psychic who was truly accurate, had my highest good at heart, and connected me to the divine guidance I needed.
That psychic? It was me. My journey down the psychic rabbit hole wasn't in vain, I discovered something valuable! The "best psychic near me" wasn't a stranger with a crystal ball or tarot cards— as Edgar Cayce, the most documented psychic of all time, said: "You are your own best psychic." I am my own best psychic.
I learned this truth the hard way so you don't have to. Now I help others be their own psychic by bypassing the psychic middleman and connecting directly to their Higher Self and Celestial Support Team —where the most honest, accurate guidance has been waiting all along.
Hypnosis is simply the key that unlocks your Superconscious—the doorway to all your intuitive and manifesting Superpowers. We're all born with this gift; I'm just here to help you remember it.
